Yorkshire Day falls on the 1st August every year and is based on the belief that maintaining the traditions and culture of a place is of upmost importance. It began during a time when many things were changing and the residents protested to preserve their county’s cultural identity. The tradition began with a reading of the Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity but today it is celebrated with local food and meals, parades, family fun days, and many other events. National Railway Museum
The National Railway Museum in York is the largest of this type in the world! It’s also free to get in which makes it a great day out when you're stuck for ideas over the holidays.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden
As one of Yorkshire’s most impressive National Trust parks, a enjoyable day out is guaranteed. The abbey is a sight to behold, and the water gardens are a tranquil place to spend your time. The park also has acres of footpaths and a deer park where you can see these amazing creatures up close.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park
This walk-through adventure is one of the best chances in the UK to get close to some of the world’s most majestic animals. They work with foundations dedication to the conservation and welfare of vulnerable and endangered animals from all over the globe.
Malham Cove
A stunning limestone formation in North Yorkshire, with a curved rock face which was created by a waterfall from glaciers dating back to the end of the last Ice Age over 12000 years ago. The view looking out over the village of Malham is the ideal end to a glorious walk through the countryside.
Filey Beach
This beautiful 5 mile beach of golden sand is perfect for a day out with the family or a romantic picnic.
Sheffield
This fantastic city centre is full of beautiful architecture, monuments, theatres and enough shops to easily empty your savings account! Sit by the fountains outside the town hall and enjoy the energetic atmosphere, wander around the Antiques Quarter and grab a bargain, or visit one of the many galleries housing local and world renowned art.
Keighley and Worth Valley Railway
Go back in time with a ride on one of these gorgeous steam trains, or take a vintage bus tour. It is such a unique way to see the natural beauty of the surrounding areas, as well as having the option of hopping off to explore one of the picturesque villages on route.

1. Bram Stoker stayed in Whitby in 1890 and it is now known as “Dracula’s Birthplace” due to the inspiration he got from the surroundings.
2. Sheffield FC became the world’s first independent football club, forming in 1857.
3. Alice In Wonderland’s famous White Rabbit character was inspired by a statue that author Lewis Carroll saw in St Mary’s Church in Beverley.
4. Yorkshire is famous for its delicious cheeses but, thanks to Wallace & Gromit, it’s most popular is the Wensleydale cheese.
